The FE 44 Duane Head takes the Duane-inspired Fillmore East voice into our most powerful handwired platform, delivering greater headroom, low-end authority and stage presence while retaining the warmth, bloom, harmonic richness and singing sustain at the heart of the Duane-inspired sound.

The FE 44 delivers a commanding 44 watts through a point-to-point handwired circuit housed in a rugged aluminum chassis. Unlike the smaller FE models, the 44 features a dual-channel design built around a combination of 12AX7 and EF86 preamp tubes for increased tonal range, dynamics and harmonic complexity.

Our Half Power Switch lets you choose between the full 44-watt output or 20 watts.

Run the full 44 watts when you want maximum headroom, punch, low-end authority and stage volume, or switch down to 20 watts when you want to push the amplifier harder at more manageable levels.

This gives the FE 44 two distinctly useful personalities while retaining the fundamental response and character of the amplifier.

KT66 / KT77 POWER SECTION

The FE 44 comes standard with our preferred combination of a KT66 and KT77 power tube.

This combination brings together the big, open character and harmonic richness of the KT66 with the tighter low end, definition and authority of the KT77. The result is a rich, buttery midrange, exceptional harmonic complexity and sustain that seems to hang in the air.

The mixed power section also adds a vocal quality to the amplifier that responds beautifully to everything from open vintage-style cleans to pushed lead tones.

CATHODE-BIASED FOR EVEN MORE TONAL POSSIBILITIES

The FE 44 features a cathode-biased power section, eliminating the need for conventional manual bias adjustments while opening up another level of tonal flexibility.

The circuit is designed to accommodate a variety of compatible power tubes, giving players the ability to explore different tube types and combinations, including KT66, KT77, 6L6, EL34 and 6CA7 types.

Changing power tubes can alter the feel, harmonic character, low-end response, midrange and overall personality of the amplifier, giving the FE 44 an even broader range of tonal possibilities.

We ship the FE 44 with our preferred KT66/KT77 combination, but the cathode-biased design gives players the freedom to explore other compatible power-tube combinations as their tastes and playing styles change.

SIX-POSITION VOICING CONTROL

The FE 44 expands considerably on the voicing flexibility of our lower-powered Fillmore East models.

Six selectable positions allow you to move through different shades of the Fillmore East sound, beginning with the warmer, rounder and harmonically rich Duane-inspired voice and moving through carefully developed intermediate settings toward the clearer, tighter and more articulate Dickey-inspired side.

The additional positions let you fine-tune the balance of warmth, clarity, midrange character, attack and harmonic response rather than locking the amplifier into one sound.

At its heart, the Duane version remains centered around the warmth, bloom and singing sustain that inspired the amplifier in the first place.

The HYBRID JBL D120 is Available with Extension Cabs

A contributing sonic factor in the amplifier is the way the sound of the Hybrid speaker captures that JBL D120 midrange and punch. The speaker starts with a Peavey Black Widow and 4-inch voice coil and we recone them with exact JBL D120 parts for a much better-voiced speaker. Better bottom-end clarity than original JBL D120’s. And they are 15% louder than and original D Series speaker at lower volumes. A perfect match! Vintage JBL D120’S are available when we have stock. (Please email for current inventory)

Optional Spring Reverb

Both models are available with true spring reverb. Reverb can be a really powerful musical spice. Most recordings include some kind of reverb to create dimension and space. Part of the Magic for the Fillmore Recordings was the Fillmore room itself. Whether you are playing a small gig or jamming at home or even the large venues, having onboard reverb adds to your overall tone.
